Consultations

Health Checks

The Shire Vet offers consultations with an experienced Veterinarian 6 days a week from 8 am till 7pm weekdays and 9am till 4pm on Saturdays.  These can be for a range of different issues - dermatology (skin dermatitis, ear infections), behaviour (separation anxiety), ophthalmology (conjunctivitis, eye problems), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhoea & vomiting), musculoskeletal (lameness), geriatric care (arthritis), or dental and weight advice. Our vets and nurses are also able to assist with anal gland expression and nail clipping. We would particularly recommend regular health checks for pets with on-going health conditions, who are geriatric (over 7 years of age) or on regular prescription medication.

Emergency Medicine & Critical Care

Unforeseen emergencies are a fact of life with pet ownership and our experienced staff are well equipped to handle emergency situations. Some common emergencies include trauma (motor vehicle accidents), injuries (fights/broken limbs, wounds), seizures, toxicities (poison, chocolate, rat bait), snake bites, tick paralysis, respiratory distress, allergic reactions (bee stings), reproductive emergencies and foreign body ingestion. If you require immediate veterinary care or are unsure whether your situation constitutes an emergency please chat to our friendly staff who will be able to advise you over the phone.

The Shire Vet is here to support your pets during all stages of life. However, end of life care is particularly important and we understand the difficulty in caring for geriatric patients. Our team is here to support you and your family through end of life discussions, palliative care and euthanasia.
